random stuff

After seeing recent news on MyColors, I thought I'd take a look and see which new themes have been released, to find that Omega now has a Vista-compatible release. So I checked the downloads for my purchased Premium Suites (I bought a few), to find that it is still the XP version! NOT HAPPY!!!

What about those of us who have purchased the Premium Suites? I remember reading on the forums a while back that Vista updates were being worked on for most if not all the Premium Suites. Don't we get the update? Do existing customers now get pushed aside to make room for new sales?

I'm sure Stardock will have an upgrade path for users.  Give them a little time.

For what it's worth, I think that if you bought version 'a' and knew what you were getting that's what you get.  If version 'b' comes out it's a new deal really.

However . . I trust Stardock will do it's best to find a balance between paying skinners, developers, and support for services rendered and their  clients.

We will be offering a free upgrade to the MyColors version to anyone who purchased in the last 6 months.  If the purchase was made prior to that, the upgrade to Vista will be $4.95 (there is an email being prepared to send out for this).

"Premium suites" as we know them will be phased out over the next month and replaced with MyColors.  As the themes get updated for Vista, they will be published as MyColors suites.  The upgrade fees, however, only pay for the extra work involved in vistafying the theme (extra icons, skin changes, etc.)

So....does this mean the only way us XP users will be able purchase any new premium skins will have to use/purchase MyColors in order to get them?

I'm not sure how mycolors works... but I downloaded it for free... I think you just pay for the themes... the software it's self has no cost...

MyColors is how hey are packaged.  It's like a ThemeManager, but has the basic software with it.  You pay for the theme, and OD users get a discount because they already paid for the full versions of the software.

Once you install MyColors, you don't have to reinstall it, you just use it to download and apply the themes.  It also has an update feature, so if we fix a glitch in a theme or add to it, you will be able to use MyColors to update it.

Thanks for making it clearer KarmaGirl, I just felt that the questions needed to be asked seeing as we had no info on the situation.

For the record, I originally bought the suites because I thought they are of a high enough standard to justify paying for, and I have a feeling that the Vista updates will also justify reaching for the credit card again...

KarmaGirl,

Is it possible to import our existing themes into My Colors so we do not have to have two theme managers? Is it just a matter of renaming the file extention?

Some of the themes are already Vista ready and it seems pointless to repurchase them just to be able to use My Colors to apply them.

CarGuy1, you can't use MyColors for suites, it uses a different packaging.  We plan to make it more robust for OD users in the future but it is just in development right now.

However, there are only two that are fully Vistafied, and that is Magic and Pirate.  We will be getting the people who bought those transitioned over to the MyColors version very soon.

Omega now has an upgrade path, also.
